Anthony Lewis “Lew” Dewalt, 79, of Cadiz, Ohio, passed away on September 11, 2026, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio. He was born on February 27, 1947, in Unionvale, Ohio.
Lew was a coal miner and worked at R&F Coal from the time it opened until it closed. He finished out his career at the Oxford Mine. He enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Lions Club for many years. Most of all, he adored his family. He and his wife loved serving as chaperones for band trips when their daughters were in school, and his granddaughter was the apple of his eye.
Lew was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Irene Dewalt on October 16, 2025; his mother and stepfather, Betty and William Sanders; father and stepmother, Mario and Pat Viola; grandparents, John Dewalt and Retta Mae (Moore) Dewalt; and 5 sisters: Lila Bates, Maxine Bates, Geneva Hooker, Doris Durbin, and Bernice Sedgmer.
He is survived by his daughters, Beth Ann Dewalt and Melissa (Dave) Dewalt; granddaughter, Olivia Grace (River) Dewalt; brother, Rick (Paula) Celestino; stepsisters, Lynn Hopkins and Linda Barrett; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Paul Giffin officiating at Clark-Kirkland-Barr Funeral Home in Cadiz.
