Calvin Keith "Skeets" Gregory

Calvin Keith “Skeets” Gregory, 71, was born on June 7, 1954. He departed this life on August 31, 2025, at his home.

Calvin was a long-time resident of Harrison County. He was an excellent athlete and musician and enjoyed singing with his angelic voice. In his early days, he first attended Hopedale High School and then transferred to Cadiz High School where he made waves as an athlete and a student. He was involved with the football, baseball and track teams. In 2010, Calvin was inducted in the Cadiz High School Hall of fame, the article written on him says: “Calvin is considered one of the finest running backs in Cadiz history and is easily one of the finest hurdlers in the history of Eastern Ohio. Greogory would own school and Ohio Valley Athletic Conference (O.V.A.C.) records in both the low and high hurdles and O.V.A.C. record tying mile relay team.” Following high school, Calvin accepted a football scholarship at Kent State University, and after his freshman year he went on to join the track team there. In his working career, he was an electrician and a part of the Electrician Local 306. Calvin was a reserved man and enjoyed a quiet life in the countryside of Freeport.

He was preceded in by his father and mother, Custer and Mary Gregory (Edna Johnson); and by 2 sisters and 3 brothers, his father, David Powell, and a grandmother, Queen Wilson.

Calvin leaves to mourn his son, Taj Callahan; two grandchildren, Caitlynn and Taj Callahan, Jr.; his sisters, Barb, Alice, Kathryn and Gwen; his brothers, Cornell, David, Maurice, and Little Dave; and two special uncles, Donnie and Mike Redmond; as well as a host of cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Shafer Chapel AME Church, McIntyre, Ohio, 1216 Township Road 191, Bloomingdale, Ohio 43910 with Pastor Melody Essex and Rev. Mary Ann Smith.
