Donald Carson

Donald Eugene Carson, 88, a lifelong resident of New Athens passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at the Harrison Community Hospital.

He retired in 1994 from Consol Coal Surface Mining operations as a Head Driller. Over the years he was an avid hunter, motorcycle enthusiast, bowler and jokester. He was also a member of the House of the Shepherd in New Athens.

He was born March 27, 1933 to Denzil and Celesta (Culbertson) Carson. He married Martha (Marty) Strawder on July 14, 1957 and had four children: Terre (Russell) Carson-Jones of Front Royal, Virginia, Dawn Carson of New Athens, Kip (Heiddi) Carson of New Athens and Chris (Darla) Carson of Springfield, Missouri.

Besides his children, he leaves behind ten grandchildren: Wendy (Mike) Loeser of Westerville, Bryan (Bethany) Taylor of Westerville, Alexa (Aaron) Oberste of Melbourne, Florida, Alyse (David) Dunavant-Jones of Rancho Cordova, California, Ty (Erica) Jones of Fort Royal, Virginia, Trevyn Jones serving in the Navy in Guam, Levi Carson of Weirton, West Virginia and Casey (Nicole) Carson of Carrollton; eight great grandchildren: Paul Michael, Mackenzie, Riley, Zachary, Ty Jr., Elaina, Ariabella and Eugene.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 30 years Marty, three children: Bonnie, Diana and Randy; his loving companion of 31 years, Betty Luyster and his sister, Louanna Carson Richards.
