Donald L. Christy

Donald L. “Chris Boy” Christy, 85, of Bloomingdale, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on May 7, 1940, in St. Clairsville, Ohio.

Don was a graduate of St. Clairsville High School. After graduating, he joined the United States Army where he served 13 months in Korea. During his service, he oversaw Fire Control for the Hawk Missile and also earned a Marksman- Carbine Medal and Sharpshooter- Rifle Medal. After his time in the military, he spent over 30 years working for Wheeling-Pitt Steel. He enjoyed watching football and rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He loved oldies music and was an excellent dancer! He also loved to watch horse racing. He loved watching NASCAR and was especially a fan of Dale Earnhardt. Don also enjoyed local racing, taking his kids to watch races at the different speedways in the area. He liked going to show cars and appreciated classic cars, especially Corvettes. Most of all, Don was a family man. He adored his family and loved spending time with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Willard and Geraldine (Gable) Christy; wife, Dixie Thorne Christy; paternal grandparents who had a big hand in raising him into the man he was, Margaret and Joseph Christy; step-daughter, Sherry Martin; his brother who was killed during military service in Vietnam, James Christy; and sisters, Jonnetta Appolloni and Peg Davia.

He is survived by his daughters, Amy (John) Cortez, Dawn Marie Christy and Rhonda Christy; grandchildren, Calen (Karissa) Myers, Ariel Cortez, Jonathan Cortez, Mirayna Miller, Dane Martin and Carley Martin; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Gabrielle; siblings, Ralph (Darlene) Christy, Joe (Vandy) Christy, and Barb Glessner; brother-in-law, Mark Davia; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Unionport Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hopedale American Legion, 48225 Rabbit Hill Road, Hopedale, Ohio 43976.
