Donald "Jock" Jochims

Donald Richard “Jock” Jochims, 76, of Hopedale, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. He was born December 25, 1946 in Dunlap, Iowa a son of the late Richard Stuart and Clara Dorothy Bahr Jochims.

Jock was a retired heavy equipment mechanic from Columbus Equipment Company and worked with the Blackburn Funeral Home during his retirement. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hopedale where he served on the Parish Council.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of the Hopedale V.F.W. Post 7477 where he served as commander, Hopedale American Legion, Post #682, over 20 years as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus (St. Catherine’s Council 4590). He served as a Police Captain in the Village of Hopedale for over 22 years and served as President of Hopedale Village Council.  

Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Karen Carlon Jochims; a son, Ken (Gwen) Jochims of Ada, Ohio; 2 daughters: Kathy (Jason Ballard) Roski of Wintersville and Kelly (“T.J.”) Grable of Ashtabula, Ohio; grandchildren: Peyton, Robert, Raegan, Paige, Nathan, Owen and Asher; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 at Blackburn Funeral Home, 324 High Street, Hopedale, Ohio and again on Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 209 Cross Street, Hopedale from 10:00 a.m. until time of the Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Fred Kihm the Celebrant. Burial will follow at Hopedale Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Hopedale American Legion. A Vigil service will be held on Thursday at 7:45 in the funeral home. The family is being assisted by Clark-Kirkland-Barr Funeral Home, Cadiz, Ohio.
