Dorothy “Loraine” Hoobler Liggett, 83, of Jewett, Ohio died Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Trinity West in Steubenville, Ohio after a strong fight against COPD and related lung complications. Loraine was born February 10, 1943, in Jewett, and was the daughter of the late Forrest Perry Hoobler and Eva Dorothy Snyder Hoobler Joseph.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Gordon Liggett. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Hoobler; sister, Arvella Delloma; and brother, Reuben Hoobler.
Surviving are her daughter, Lori (Dave) Mayher of Bloomingdale, Ohio, and son, Michael (Wendy) Liggett of Wintersville, Ohio; granddaughters, Sarah Mayher of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ellyn (Collin) McGinnis of Ohiopyle, PA, Audra (Chris) Pesta of Hopedale, Ohio; and twin great-granddaughters Natalie and Naomi Pesta; sister, Diana Baker of Jewett, Ohio and sister, Sharon Tucker of Cadiz, Ohio; as well as beloved nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is a member of Bethel Methodist Church in Jewett, past member of the Hopedale Social Hall, secretary at Rish Equipment in Cadiz, secretary for Liggett Trucking, and kitchen aid at Gablecare. She loved volunteering at the Hopedale Social Hall, making noodles with her granddaughters, laughing and traveling with friends and family, line-dancing, quilting and playing euchre. She was a devoted wife and, honoring their wedding vows of in sickness and in health, became an excellent caretaker for Gordon after he suffered a stroke in 2005. She was the best mom that anyone could ask for but was an even greater grandmother. She was fun, witty, strong-willed and ornery. She will be greatly missed by all.
Loraine’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the wonderful caregivers who provided thoughtful care to her the past few years. Because of them, Loraine was able to live out her life in her own home watching Gunsmoke and sitting on her porch watching the deer, birds and sunsets.
