Elizabeth Buck

Elizabeth Anne Williams Buck age 85 died Tuesday morning, April 8, 2014. She left behind her husband, Maynard A. Buck, Jr., a son, Maynard A. Buck III, (Mike) and his wife, Lynne of Westlake, and Ohio, two grandchildren, Dean, a graduate of the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in Manhattan, and Samantha, a sophomore at the University of Chicago. Her mother, Sara Williams and her father Dean Williams, precede her in death. Her brother, William Bryant, a B-24 bombardier, was killed in World War II Mrs. Buck was born in Freeport, Ohio on May 1, 1928. She was a graduate of Freeport High School in 1946 and entered Wooster College in the fall of that year. She returned to Freeport after her first semester due to the illness of her father. There, she managed the Freeport Press until his recovery 6 months later. She continued her education, entering the Ohio State University in late 1946 where she met Maynard Buck. Mr. and Mrs. Buck were married in Freeport on August 27, 1950. Mrs. Buck completed her undergraduate work and a Master of Arts in History at Kent State University. Her Masters Thesis on Senator Robert A. Taft included a review some of the Senator's private papers and extensive family interviews. During her husband's service in the Air Force she taught high school history in Mineral Wells, Texas. Upon Mr. Buck's discharge from the Air Force the couple moved to Freeport, Ohio where they began working for the Freeport Press. Shortly thereafter, they purchased the Press, and a few years later merged it with the Cadiz Republican to form the Harrison News-Herald. Mrs. Buck also served as a Cadiz Village Councilwoman and was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz. Mrs. Buck was an avid reader, loved her dogs, and enjoyed traveling the world. Friends may call Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 5 - 8 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Robert Hooker officiating.
