George Francis Newton, 84, of Cadiz, born August 23, 1940 was sent to his eternal home with the Lord on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Valley Hospice Center North at Trinity in Steubenville, Ohio.
George was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on Earth was marked by multiple health conditions but he always had love, compassion and unwavering faith in God. We ask you to remember him for the profound impact he had on all those who knew him.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Wellington (Red) Newton and Helen Roscoe Newton and his beloved dog Harley he dearly missed.
George is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Rebecca (Becky) Newton of Cadiz, Ohio whom he loved dearly along with her children that he loved like his own: Rhonda (Rob) Braden of Wheeling, WV, Alan Wootchie (Tracy Lanoy) of Harrisville, Ohio, Eva (Steve) Rocknich of Cadiz, Ohio; four grandchildren which he adored: Ashlei Braden, Marissa Rocknich, Preston (Newton) Rocknich which his middle name was given after him, and Josiah Rocknich; four great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Kimberly, Conner and Vidalia, and his children Mike (Denise) Newton, Kiefer, OK, Kari and Jeffrey Newton.
George had a love and passion for motorcycles and cars and had the privilege of owning many. He was a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Air Force. He loved his time in the military which he served 9 years and 9 months and left because he did not want another time in Vietnam. George retired from Kroger company in 1997. He drove the VA van to Pittsburgh. George could fix anything and was a wonderful painter and enjoyed doing landscaping paintings. He loved the outdoors and working in the garden. He was a member of the Cadiz American Legion Post #34 where he served on the honor guard and met several wonderful people. He was a member of Scotch Ridge Presbyterian Church and later attended Scott United Methodist Church.
Those who knew George will remember him for his love of his family and care her provided to others and his deep-rooted faith in Jesus. He will leave a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday April 22, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland-Barr Funeral Home, 172 South Main Street, Cadiz, where funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am with Pastor Joe Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at Alexander Family Cemetery at Scotch Ridge Church in Martins Ferry, Ohio. The Cadiz American Legion Post, #34 will provide Military honors at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.
Although his physical presence may no longer grace us his spirit will forever inspire and uplift us.
