Gregory Gibson, born February 21, 1947, to the late Alvin and Wilda (Thompson) Gibson, died on Saturday, September 26th at Valley Hospice in Steubenville. He was 79.
Greg's talents were many. He designed and built a house for his new family in 1981, a home that has his touches in every corner. He could fish with the best, bring down many a buck with his bow and fix almost anything.
Blessed with an abundance of common sense and not one to keep his opinions to himself, Greg often became the group leader – from Cadiz Island in Canada to the Cadiz Wrestling Parents to the trustees of the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz.
Talents aside, it was his fierce devotion to his family that will be his true legacy, a devotion he proved over and over, culminating in making his sons his own, an adoption that took five years and a trip to the Ohio Supreme Court.
In addition to his parents, Greg was predeceased by his sister, Beth Gibson-Tansey.
He is survived by Pam (Ronsheim), his wife of 45 years; his sons Aric (Ariel Shea) of Washington, DC and Wade (Kelley) of Arvada, CO; his grandchildren, Samuel Gregory and Scarlett; brother Curt (Jenny); brother-in-law Doug (Maureen Emerling) Ronsheim; nephews Marc (Kayla) and Dustin (Alex) Gibson and Aaron (Eileen) Ronsheim and their families.
A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz on Saturday, October 17th at 11AM. The family will be there at 10. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Greg's memory can be made to the Cadiz Unit of the Salvation Army, 154 West Market St, Cadiz, OH 43907.
The Oak...
Tall, steady and headstrong
Faultless? Of course not
He'd be the first to tell you he wasn't
Principled? To a fault
Protective? Especially of us
Grateful? Especially for Mom
He was our perfect imperfection
To most, he was Greg Gibson
But he is our Oak
And always will be.
