J. David Maffeo June 26, 1943 – March 15, 2026
J. David Maffeo, 82, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, while visiting his beloved life partner in Williamsburg, Virginia. Born in Wheeling, WV, and raised in Cadiz, Ohio.
David graduated from Cadiz High School in 1961, then West Liberty University. A big dreamer with an "old-school" work ethic, David’s career was marked by grit and ambition. His professional journey took him to many cities, where he eventually managed iconic properties like The Continent and several of the city's major malls. In Louisville, Kentucky, he oversaw The Galleria, Humana, and Jewish Hospital properties, and eventually founded his own real estate company. He later partnered with his life partner, Mary, at Quanta Dynamics, where he authored children’s books to educate families and children about sleep.
David loved life and never met a stranger. He was a man of deep faith and tradition, rooted in St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. He genuinely loved to cook and prepare meals for those he loved. He took immense pride in ownership, maintaining the best-looking yard in the neighborhood, keeping the nicest car in spotless condition, and hunting for hidden gems in antique and thrift stores. He liked to dress nice for any occasion, though he was decidedly not an early bird and definitely disliked shoveling snow.
David was quick to laugh but also loved a good argument, a fast drive, and a big surprise. Above all, he loved his life partner and sons with a deep devotion.
David is survived by his devoted life partner of over 30 years, Mary O'Sullivan; his sons, Jeffrey Maffeo and Jonathan Maffeo; and his extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Maffeo and Josephine (Wasko) Maffeo.
