James Foster

James E. Foster, "Ed", 86, of Cadiz, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born January 8, 1927 in New Athens, OH, a son of the late Paul and Edna Leah Arnold Foster. Ed retired as a Lineman from Ohio Power in 1989 after 38 years. He was member of Scott United Methodist Church and was an Army Veteran of the Occupation of Japan, serving with the Paratroopers. He was a member of the Cadiz American Legion, Post 34. He was active in Little League Baseball with his sons, and was an avid supporter of his children's and grandchildren's activities. He liked taking care of his lawn and working in his garden. He enjoyed traveling with friends and family gatherings and celebrations. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Gerald and Eugene Foster. He is survived by his wife, Betty Covert Foster, with whom he would have celebrated their 65th anniversary on September 19. Additional family include two sons, Jeffrey (Becky) Foster of Toronto and Randy Foster of Cadiz; two daughters, Amy (Don) Ferns of Canfield and Jill (Mitch) Fellows of Thornville; eleven grandchildren: Mindy Schlechter, Jay Foster, Emily Pearson, Katie Evans, A.J. Foster, Eddie Fellows, Jordan Ferns, Deanna Rock, Erin Ferns, Jenny Fellows and Donnie Ferns; six great grandchildren: Gigi Rock, Jett Evans, Jagger Evans, Avila Schlechter, Navi Pearson and Nate Rock. Friends may call Sunday, 3-7 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, where funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Richard Hasley officiating. Burial will follow at Longview Cemetery, New Athens. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Gables Care Center for their support and care during Ed's illness.
