James Darrell Thompson

James Darrell "Old Man" Thompson, 89 of Jewett, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2026 after a sudden brief illness at Allegheny Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Jim was born March 9, 1937 in Dennison, Ohio a son of the late Emmett Lee and Beulah Delora Rose Thompson.

Jim was a truck driver having hauled steel for Lattavo Brothers of Canton, Ohio, coal for Cravat Coal of Holloway and retired as an over the road truck driver for Sentle Trucking Company of Youngstown, Ohio.

He was member of the Hopedale Son's of the American Legion, Hopedale Sportsman Club, Jewett Sportsman Club and Harrison County First Families. Jim was an avid reader having an extensive collection of Louis L'Amour and Zane Grey book collections from the 1950's.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents; by his wife, Janet Hester Ickes Thompson on August 9, 1987; an older brother, Thomas who succumbed at 6 weeks of age; his daughter-in-law, Nancy Thompson; son-in-law, Tod Copeland and a great granddaughter, Violet.

Surviving are his 3 sons: John Phillip of Jewett, James Lee of Jewett and his children: Jamie, Sara and Jacob and Jeffrey Thomas (Donna) of Jewett and his children: Emily, Tommy and Seth; a daughter, Jolene Delora of Cadiz and her children: Jesse, Casey, Callie and Russell; and 14 great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 20 from 4-7 and Friday, August 21 from 11:00 a.m. until time of his funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Dorman Mader officiating at Clark-Kirkland-Barr Funeral Home, Cadiz. Burial will follow at Bethel Church Cemetery, Jewett, Ohio.
