Lavonda Louise New, 75, of Cadiz, died Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Kobacker House in Columbus following a valiant battle with cancer. She was born June 24, 1938 in West Union, WV, a daughter of the late James and Erma Ash Hutton. Lavonda was a 1956 graduate of Cadiz High School and attended the Cincinnati Bible Seminary. She was a former Secretary for Cadiz Exempted Village School District and Harrison Hills City School District and retired as Executive Secretary to the late Michael Puskarich at Cravat Coal Co. in Cadiz. She was a member of the East Warren Street Church of Christ in Cadiz, where she was actively involved with her church family. She was a valued counselor for all her family and friends. In addition to mother and step-father, she was preceded in death by a cousin, Luke Pettay. Surviving are a special cousin, Mark (Francine) Pettay and their children, Ashley, Kenny, Ryan and Riley of Groveport; an aunt, Virginia (James) McFarlan of Cadiz; and uncle, Charles (Beth) Ash of Palm Desert, CA and numerous cousins who loved her dearly, including Linda Rusen of Bloomingdale. Friends may call Friday, 6-8 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, where funeral services will be held Saturday, June 28 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Cadiz Union Cemetery.
