Marcia Bedway

February 9, 1950 — March 25, 2017

Marcia Elizabeth Bedway, a renowned businesswoman and civic leader whose intellect, creativity, wit and warmth made her a favorite of relatives, friends, business associates and pets alike, died March 25, 2017 from surgical complications. Born on February 9, 1950 to the late John and Janet Bedway, Marcia was a 1967 graduate of Mount De Chantal Visitation Academy in Wheeling and attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. The arc of her career took her places near and far, from the White House to the West Coast to the Bedway home on Copes Lane. She served in the legislative liaison office of the West Wing from 1977 to 1981. In the 1980's, Marcia was a director of marketing for the Pacific Division of MCI Communications. She moved back to Cadiz in 1991, and began managing the Bedway family business interests. From 2010 to 2012 she served as Director of Tourism for Harrison County, and served on the County Tourism Board. Marcia was on the Belmont College Board of Trustees for nearly two decades, and was a founding member of the Belmont College Foundation Board. She was selected to serve on numerous committees at the State level of the Ohio Association of Community Colleges. Marcia was named Vice President of the Tri-County Help Center Board of Trustees, and recently stepped in as interim president. She was also a past President of the Cadiz Business Association. She had a way of making living things grow, tending an elaborate garden with her longtime friends Bob and Denise Henderson. Marcia also mentored many young people and relatives, became a world-class aunt to her nephew Andrew, and had a knack for such arts as beekeeping, flower arranging, writing, golfing and saving wayward cats. She inherited the pie-baking gene from her Grandmother Dickerson, to the great good fortune of her family and friends. Marcia is survived by the four siblings she was utterly devoted to: Andrea Bedway and Tom Bedway of Columbus, Barbara Bedway of Nyack, NY and George Bedway of Cadiz; as well as her brother-in-law Greg Mitchell of Nyack and nephew Andrew Mitchell of Los Angeles, California. Calling hours will be Thursday at Clark-Kirkland in Cadiz, Ohio from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm.
