Mary Romshak

Mary Alice Romshak, 91, the oldest living resident of New Athens who was born there, died Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Liza's Place in Wheeling, WV. She was born April 2, 1922, a daughter of the late Clyde F. and Lillie M. Henderson Secrest. Mary Alice was a former member of Council and former Mayor of the Village of New Athens. She was a member of the New Athens United Methodist Church; the New Athens VFD Auxiliary and the Cadiz FOE Aerie 2162 Auxiliary. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her music and just being with her family. She was loved by young and old alike. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Johnson in 1945, her second husband, Rudy Romshak in 1987; a son Larry Johnson; a daughter, Betty Jane Litten; a son-in-law, Carl Bruce Price; a brother, Clyde F. "Bud" Secrest; a sister Gertrude Yemich; and her cat and faithful companion, Emmitt. Surviving are a son Rudy C. (Millie) Romshak of Cadiz; three daughters, Linda (Ron) Stine of Cadiz, Mary Ann Price of Bridgeport, and Deborah Sue (Phillip) Ferda of New Athens; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Dale of St. Clairsville and Sue McCue of Cadiz; a son-in-law, Marty Litten of Flushing and a daughter-in-law, Cookie Johnson of New Athens. Friends may call Friday, 2-4 and 6-8 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with her grandson, Rev. Jon Little officiating. Burial will follow at Longview Cemetery, New Athens. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Athens VFD, c/o Tom Saffell, P.O.
