Maxine Bates

Maxine D. Bates, 84, of Cadiz, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at the Meadows of

Cadiz after a long illness. She was born November 10, 1938 in Unionvale, Ohio a daughter of

the late John and Retha Mae Moore Dewalt.

Maxine was a homemaker and a member of the Colliers Nazarene Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milton C. “Skeeter” “Popeye” Bates; a

son, Mark Bates; 4 sisters: Geneva Hooker, Doris Durbin, Betty Sanders and Bernice Sedgmer.

Surviving are 2 sons: John (Toni) Bates of Freeport and Matthew (Stacie) Bates of Hopedale; 5

grandchildren: Damian Bates, Heidi Davis, Luke Bates, Dustin Bates and Nicole Blanton; 6

great grandchildren; a brother, Anthony Lewis (Gail) DeWalt of Cadiz and a sister, Lila Bates of Moorefield, Ohio.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until time of

service at 12:00 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland-Barr Funeral Home, Cadiz with  Rev. Russ Buchanan  

officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
