Listen to Obituary

Michael Wayne “Mike” Chaney, 66, of Cadiz passed away Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Valley Hospice North in Trinity Medical Center West with his family by his side. He was born on March 24, 1959, in Wheeling West Virginia, a son of the late Francis Wayne and Mary Lou Elliott Chaney.

Mike worked at Y&O Coal #2 in Hopedale for 6 years! He then went on to work for and just recently retired from Ohio Cat after 34 years where he worked in the parts department.

Mike was known and loved by everyone. Mike loved to talk and was a “master” when it came to storytelling. Mike had the gift to take any story and turn it into something unforgettable. People of all ages loved to listen to his stories. His language was always colorful to say the least. He had a gift! You laughed so hard that sometimes you cried. Mike was a lot of fun! With Mike, there was no grey, it was either black or white, you always knew where he stood.

He loved his family and friends fiercely and would do anything for them. He loved riding with his friends whether it was going on trips, poker runs or just cruising around. He had many motorcycles throughout his life and Harley Davidson was always number one to him.

Mike loved German Shepherds and had many throughout his life. He took them for rides and got them treats. They were his “girls.”

Mike loved his friends and had many from all over the Ohio Valley. From his Childhood Friends, Ohio Cat Family, riding buddies, and even people he delivered parts to - they were family to him. Mike liked to give everyone nicknames that referenced either a specific memory with that person or an inside joke. Mike was honest, hard-working, and a loyal friend. Life will be less colorful without Mike in it.

Mike was known for his epic parties for many years which always involved music, homemade beef stew, wings, and always a massive bonfire. Everyone knew about Mike’s parties and couldn’t wait for the party to come next year.

Mike lived his life the way he wanted to and didn’t apologize to anyone. There will never be another Mike Chaney.

Mike is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Lou Ann and Jim Dowdle of Cadiz; his 2 nieces: Lindsay Dowdle of Barnesville and Abby Dowdle of Cadiz, Ohio; and his beloved German Shepherds, Samantha and Stella.

At the request of Mike, there will be no calling hours or funeral. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date. The family is being assisted by Clark-Kirkland-Barr Funeral Home in Cadiz.
