Miller Merkel

Miller August "Shybuck" Merkel, 73, of Cadiz, died Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Laurels of Steubenville, Ohio. He was born September 26, 1940 in Martins Ferry, Ohio a son of the late Miller Mills and Josephine Julia Russel Merkel. He was a retired maintenance manager for Harrison Metropolitan Housing Authority and a former coal miner having worked at Oak Park Mine. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz, the Dillonvale American Legion, UMWA and a former employee of Belots Brick Company He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by an infant daughter, Melissa Sue Merkel and a brother, Bidge Merkel. He is survived by his wife, Sally Wilson Merkel; a son, Charles Merkel and his wife Melissa of Cadiz; a daughter Suzanne Stull and her husband Brian of Scio; 3 grandsons: Hunter Merkel, Brenton and Brandon Stull; brothers-in-law: Lewis (Bonnie) Wilson of Bridgeport and Joseph (Marcia) Wilson of Florida; sister-in-law, Vina Yoker of Dillonvale; several nieces , nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Calling hours will be held Monday, March 10 from 2-4 and 6-8 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz where funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Richard Hasley officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio. Military honors provided by Dillonvale American Legion.
