John 14:37, “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give peace to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.”
Monroe Juleeann DeLuca, 8, of Cadiz, Ohio, went home to be with Jesus surrounded by her loving family after a brave fight on September 12, 2025. Sweet Miss Monroe was born on November 29, 2016, in Wheeling, West Virginia to her loving parents, Salvatore and Amanda DeLuca.
Peachy Girl was a child filled with faith, and compassion. A true disciple, with love for her church, the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz, and her school, Bishop John King Mussio Elementary. She cared deeply about other children and inspired others with her faith. She was notorious for her “Squishmallow Drives”—bringing over 2,000 to children at the hospital and spreading joy and comfort. She found peace in Jesus and one of her favorite verses was Romans 15:13, “Our hope comes from God. May He fill you with joy and peace because of your trust in Him. May your hope grow stronger by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Monroe loved to dance and was a member of the competition team at Amanda’s Dance Academy, a passion she was taught by her mom. She loved her dogs, especially her sweet pup Teddy who followed her wherever she went. She was a crafty girl, making beautiful paintings and drawings and sharing them with those she loved. She loved arranging flowers and even entered her arrangements in the Harrison County Fair. She had a passion for horseback riding, fishing with her dad, and she loved animals as a whole. She was an expert baker and won several blue ribbons for her baking. She was also a published author of two children’s books. Perhaps her most important work was showing us her miracle, which was restoring faith in so many people and bringing communities together in prayer.
Monroe was welcomed into Heaven by her great-grandpa, Dave Baker; great-grandma, Mary Ann Sowers; and her grandpa, Joe DeLuca.
She is forever loved by her parents, Sal and Amanda; brother, Jackson “Roadrunner”; her grandparents, Alysia “Gog” and Terry “Pap” Capers; her “Aunt Sassy” Taylor (Josh and Caden) Capers; great-grandmas, Jamie “Grandma Jammies” Baker; honorary sisters, Malania (Reilly) and Mallory Birney; additionally, grandparents, Frank “Pappy Frank” and Patti “Yaya” Sabo “Grandma Dolly” Sabo; her “Aunt Pearl” DeLuca; and countless others who cherish her memory always.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025, from 2-6 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with John Visser officiating at the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz. In Monroe fashion, the family asks that you wear cheerful colors, such as some of her favorites, peach or purple or your Monroe's Miracle shirts!
The family is so incredibly grateful for everyone’s love and support as the community rallied for “Monroe’s Miracle.” Although flowers are a kind sentiment, the family strongly asks that you donate, in lieu of flowers, to either a scholarship to cover tuition for Steubenville Catholic Central Children of the Hope Program by writing a check to “Pathways for Inclusion” and “Monroe’s Scholarship” in the memo line, checks can be mailed to 172 South Main Street, Cadiz, Ohio 43907,
Or to Child Life UPMC Program, noting “Monroe DeLuca- Child Life” in your donation using the link, https://tinyurl.com/Donate-on-behalf-of-Monroe
Finally, the family encourages people to bring a Squishmallow to the calling hours for another drive in Monroe’s Honor for the children at UPMC, or via the wish list at https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/owner-view/208VHOCSXGHNT?ref_=registries_subnav
They want to continue Monroe’s giving legacy, and this is the way to honor her in doing so.
Monroe touched the lives of many in her short time on Earth. May we continue to learn faith, compassion, and genuine care for one another from the things she has done, and the impact her memory will continue to make for so many people. May we continue to look for her in every peach sunrise and sunset.
