Myron A. Fledderus, 90, of Cadiz, Ohio, passed away on June 17, 2025, at the Harrison County Home surrounded by his family. He was born in Kuinre, Holland, Netherlands on July 23, 1934, a son of the late Jacob and Rieuwkje Koopmans Fledderus.
Myron immigrated to the United States from the Netherlands at 15 years old in 1949. He originally resided in Cleveland, Ohio but made semi-truck deliveries to Cadiz where he went on to establish his life. He attended Cadiz High School where he met the love of his life, Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Luther Fledderus. They went on to get married on August 20, 1955, and welcomed their first daughter, Annie, the following year. Following the request from his mother-in-law, Catherine Luther, for assistance, Myron managed Luther’s Builders Supply for many years. He was a family man, he and Betty had 4 wonderful children together, many grandchildren and even great-grandchildren, Myron loved and cared for his family deeply. He also loved people as a whole—he would help anyone however he could. Myron had many honorary children whom he helped raise and nurture in the neighborhood right alongside his own family.
He also was a community man—and loved and helped nurture Cadiz in many aspects during his life here. He was an assistant Fire Chief for the Cadiz Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was a member of the Cadiz American Legion Post #34, and also a member of the Cadiz F.O.E. #2162. He helped his son, Tom, during his time as a boy scout supporting and helping the Cadiz Boy Scout Troup however he could. He also enjoyed helping Tom and many of their friends prepare cars to compete in demolition derbies both in Harrison County and all-around Ohio. During the prime of it, he helped setting up the stages for the Harrison County Coal Festival each year. He also helped set up the Harrison County Fair for many years. He and Betty were members of the St. Teresa Avila Catholic Church—and both passionate in their faith.
Myron loved to fish and especially loved joining the “Cadiz Island” crew on many trips to the cabin in Canada over the years. This crew, including “Fledd, Moss, Stale and Spike”, also loved playing cards together and having cookouts. Myron also had a quirky hobby that his family loved, recalled scrapping metal—and many people in the community would call on him when they needed help doing so. Myron enjoyed the simple things in life—he didn’t like for people to make a fuss over him. He was a man for the people and fiercely loved and appreciated both his community and the people in it.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Denhertog and Sally Hagen.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Fledderus; children, Annie (Tim) Crouse, Susan Fledderus Tom (Lisa) Fledderus and Christine (Jim) Lyons; grandchildren, Korey (Jenn) Crouse, Dylan (Bethany) Crouse, Nic (Holly) Fledderus, Lane Fledderus, Sarah (Bryan Barrett) Lyons, Jessie Lyons, Jimmy Lyons and Joey Lyons; 6 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Pat Schenk-Fledderus; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
