Newell B. Trotter, 89, of Cadiz, passed away Friday, November 23, 2007 at Gables Care Center, Hopedale, Ohio. He was born February 25, 1918 in Jewett, Ohio a son of the late Saunders W. and Ethel Aken Trotter. He was retired from Consol where he worked as a loading shovel operator for 43 years without a lost-time accident. He served in World War II with the 833rd Aviation Engineers Battalion for 43 months in Europe. He recieved the French Jubilee of Liberty Medal awarded by the French government to those who served in the Normandy Invasion. Mr. Trotter was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz where he served as an Elder, Sunday School Superintendent for 9 years, and choir member for 57 years. He was also a member of the Harrison Lodge #219, F. Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville; Cadiz American Legion, Post #34 for over 50 years, where he sang with the the Legion Barbershop Quartet; and the United Mine Workers of America, Local 1506. After his retirement, he enjoyed making cradles, quilt racks, and many wooden crafts. He and his wife attended many local craft shows. During the winter, he and Naomi traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where they had many friends. Newell is survived by his wife, Naomi Leeser Trotter whom married on September 10, 1941; two daughters: Saundra L. (Richard) Hendershot of Westminster, Colorado and Patricia K. (Allen) Bobot of Harrisville, Ohio; a son, Timothy B. Trotter of Scottsdale, Arizona; 6 grandchildren: Elka L. (Scott) VanCuren of Harrisville, Alison R. (Jamie) Binion of Pleasant Prarie, Wisconsin, Benjamin J. (Amy) Hendershot of Broomfield, Colorado, Brenton R. Trotter of Glendale, California, Andrew J. Trotter and Chelsea J. Trotter of Scottsdale, Arizona; 4 great grandchildren: Hunter VanCuren, Claire Hendershot, Audrey Hendershot, and Jayden Binion; a brother, Byron R. (Joyce) Trotter of Jewett; a sister, Letha L. McMannis of Scio; 2 sisters-in-law, Lavonne Dunlap and Elsie Leeser of Cadiz; 2 nephews: Tom (Debbie) Trotter and Charles (Nancy) Leeser; and 2 nieces Sue (Joe) Myers and Maurine (Bob) Huntsman. Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 26, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz, 154 W. Market St., Cadiz, Ohio with Rev. Dr. David Rice officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Gardens Cemetery, Jewett, Ohio. Cadiz American Legion will conduct military honors. A Masonic Service will be held Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions to the Preswbyterian Church of Cadiz, 154 West Market Street, Cadiz, Ohio.
