Verne W. Norris

Verne W. Norris, 87, of Cadiz, Ohio passed away on July 6, 2025, at the Harrison County Home. He was born on May 18, 1938, in Uhrichsville Ohio, a son of the late David B. and Ida M. Conner Norris, Sr.

Verne grew up in Tuscarawas County. He served in the United States Army Reserve. He married his wife, Hilda, on June 3, 1961, and together they had two sons and built a life they loved. He was a dozer operator for over 45 years for both R&F Coal Company and Oxford Mining until he retired from the two. Verne was an avid listener of blue grass and early country music. He was a member of the Cadiz Booster Club for many years and loved attending sporting events, especially football games. He was extremely witty and always kept his family on their toes with what he may say! Verne especially loved and spent a lot of time with his grandson, James.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his wife, Hilda M. Grimes Norris in 2008; brothers, John, Carl and David B. Norris, Jr.; sisters, Eva Tickrick, Myrtle Arminda Endenburg, as well as 3 infant sisters; and his fiancé, Barbara E. Erbacher in 2020.

He is survived by his two sons, Jim Norris of Cadiz and Steven (Sarah) Norris of North Canton; grandson whom he adored, James Norris of Cadiz; Jesse Crawford of Cadiz; his fiancés children, Dan (Linda) Erbacher of New Athens and Dana (Matthew) Gallagher of St. Clairsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 4-7 at Clark-Kirkland-Barr Funeral Home in Cadiz. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 11:00a.m. with Lay minister Dorman Mader officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Church Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the Harrison County Home for the excellent care they gave Verne, as well as many of their family members over the years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harrison County Home, 41500 Cadiz-Dennison Road, Cadiz, Ohio 43907.
