Wesley Nichols

October 18, 1939 — June 15, 2024

New Athens

It is with great sadness that the family of Wesley Allan Nichols announce his passing. Wesley, age 84, of New Athens, Ohio was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 15th at Cumberland Pointe Care Center in St. Clairsville, Ohio after a long battle with kidney failure and lung cancer. In his final moments, he was surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 18th, 1939 in Shortcreek, Ohio to Inez and Bernard Nichols and was one of nine siblings. At a young age, Wesley met, fell in love and in 1956 married his sweetheart Jeannette and the two had five children. Wesley proudly served our country as a member of the United States Army from 1957 to 1960. After leaving the service, he spent the majority of his working years as an underground coal miner. He also served as a township trustee for the Village of New Athens for eight years. Besides being a hard working miner, husband and father of 5, he loved spending time fishing. From the waters of Lake Erie to Clendenning Lake, whether off the side of a boat or from the shores, he loved casting out a line, especially with his sons and grandsons. He is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor Jeannette, daughter Debra (Dane) Morgan of Cadiz, OH, Edward (Melissa) Nichols of Virginia Beach, VA, Lora (Earl) Wood of Chesapeake, VA and Michelle (Brian) Howell of Hilliard, OH. He was the proud grandfather of Dana, Duran, Danielle, Thomas, Ryan, Brooklynn, Colin, Zachary, Aleya and Kobi and great grandfather to Cooper, Daniel, Serenity and Parker. Brothers Bernard, Dwight and Byran and sisters Mildred, Gloria and Barbara. Always close to his heart was little dog Chloe. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Richard, sisters Linda and Sandra. Services will be held at Clark-Kirkland-Barr funeral home on Tuesday, June 18th with calling hours from noon till two and a service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to The National Kidney Foundation or The American Cancer Society.
